2/16/04
As I look through all the pictures from Katsucon, I'm noticing one thing. Everyone looks happy. Really, genuinely, honestly happy. Truth is, we didn't make as much as we had planned, but what we got out of it was way more than worth it. I really miss the people I got to spend time with already, the few times a year just doesn't seem like enough to me. But I' m home and alive. I'll be posting a much more detailed post as well, and the next comic will be a con report, in fact you can expect one from all of our group. =) We teamed up with with Vaz, Hawk and Ananth, Matt and Ian and even though they weren't part of our space, Katie Bair and Mookie were also part of our entourage. I have to thank Matt again for recommending that I get in touch with Mookie, he was one of the nicest people I've ever aimed a banana at! Mookie, Thank you for the shirt and for watching my things for waaaay longer than you needed to! It was too much fun!
Very special thanks to Barb for having us, moderating one of the best panels in webcomic history, and for generally being sweet! It was great to see you again, and I hope you and Chris join us at future cons. More special thanks to Richard "Pocky" Kim for setting up our space, having us in his way and being a great guy. It was great seeing you, I hope you like the mascot art. You both made the con incredibly enjoyable for us all, and it goes without saying I consider you both good friends.
We've really formed a closely knit group the past few cons, and I plan on getting to work on Otakon and Portcon plans this week. We also have plans for SDCC in the works, and maybe more. To the group of amazingly talented artists I got to work with this con: thank you all for accompanying me and making the convention such a great experience. I can't wait to see everyone again.
And while I'm gushing so profusely...
There were a number of other wonderful people who made this con a great time. Fred and Sarah, it was wonderful to see you again and to actually sit down and relax for once! I'm sorry I couldn't stay later to spend more time, but hopefully next time. And I promise not to bring a ton of books next time! You've made some folks here in Maine VERY, VERY happy. Jodan, you're a great guy and it's always great to see you and Katie. Doc, you were absolutely invaluable, thanks for your help! Art Show crew, you all rocked! Don't forget to send me that contact info! Thank you Moony for keeping us organized and sane. Thanks Jes, I hope you know I consider you as much a part of PL crew as Mac Hall crew, and I think the other comics agree. Thanks to Rob from PartiallyClips, Chris from Fragile Gravity, Absath from Ctr+Alt+Del and Kara from Conscrew for joining us at the panel and for being such great folks! Thanks for the book Rob!
It was also great meeting Scott of Dub This. It's a great little webcomic that has just the right amount of the angst I love, you should give it a look. Unfortunately, the folks at VG Cats couldn't make it, but hopefully they'll be joining us in the future, also a great comic to check out.
To the cool dude at Staples in New London RI: THANKS! I'm glad you like PL and I hope you like the print!
And of course, my crew. Booj, you are THE MAN! Only Initial B could have gotten us through the ten hour drive in six hours safely! PL wouldn't be what it is without you, we're all looking forward to a real con report from you! Jess, the Whitemage, you were a huge help behind the PL table! Thanks for being the Emergency Backup Muse! Jekka, Ace, PL couldn't have better models for Secret Agents. Bill and April, your hospitality made the trip a whole lot easier. Thanks for being our waypoint in RI. Jamie, thanks for being the best booth babe ever! Hehe, it was a blast having you. And of course, Nami. You're my muse, I couldn't have done this comic in the first place without you and I will always be eternally grateful. You really are an angel.
Gush gush, I know I'm forgetting people. But this was supposed to be the short version... ^^;
Finally, all the PL readers who came out to see me. You guys rock more than anything! You've stuck with me through all the downtime, art days and everything and you're STILL so supportive! Thank you everyone who came and talked to me, bought something to support PL, got a free sketch and gave me so much support! You guys are the best! Thanks for all of you who scanned the sketches I drew, I'll post them in the gallery for you if you want.
I could go on and on, but really, I need to stop here, and I KNOW I'm
forgetting folks1 I'm really sorry if I have, it's just because
I'm brain-dead-tired. So now, off to hibernate and tomorrow I'll
get back to work on the strip. in the meantime, check out A
Fan's View (that's my group o friends in the banner!), Disposable
Fantasies, and Todom's Domain
for some great pics of all of us at the con. I'm sure Mac
Hall and Applegeeks will
have some great pics too, and if you have any of us or find a site that
has some good ones, please let me know I'd love to see them!
And we escaped sealed the box' o doom... |

POWER STRUGGLE 2/11/04
I had to split this one into two comics to get it done before leaving for Katsucon. Sorry to drag the fight scene out so long! As it is, though, I really had to rush it out, so I'm not as happy with the color, and it's not nearly as clean as would normally make a comic. But it's on time! I have to say I'm learning a lot doing fight scenes. They're a lot tougher than a normal comic in that it takes a lot more planning, and it can be read in just a second or two. Well, I have about an hour to get ready and pack for Katsucon, so I'm off to it. Hope to see you there!
CAPTAIN! Want POOPCAKES!! XD (don't ask...) |

AN OPENING 2/7/04
Well, after hibernating for the winter, I'm back to comicing. Now, where to start? How about with Winnowill Coy's version of what happened next! This is adorable, a great Valentine's Day comic! The there's a great picture of Agent Jekka from Hawk, over at Applegeeks. Man, don't you hate it when other people draw your characters better than you? Ok, what's next... We'll be at Katsucon again this year. You can find us with our friends at Mac Hall, Applegeeks, Under Power, Dominic Deegan in the art show room, which is open from 10AM to Midnight. We'll also be doing the web comic panel with the same folks plus Katie Bair, Piro, and it sounds like the folks from Fragile Gravity and CtrAltDel. The panel will be on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00. That's a long panel, but fortunately, there's a lot of great comic-ers there, and I'm not sure if I even got everyone there. What else? OH, there is the STUDIO! Heh, yeah, that might be worth mentioning... So, I'll be sharing a building with Julie's shop, Weekend Anime. We're working on the renovations now, and I should be moved in by spring. I'm doing this specifically to be able to do manga, and specifically Paradox Lost full time. Honestly, I'm a little nervous. I'm going to need to find a way to make money off manga, but if I can pull it off then we'll have full time comics. I plan on setting up the online store as soon as I can, so if you want some of the merchandise I carry at cons and you can't get there, you won't have to worry. I carry mouspads, t shirts and prints right now, but if you have a special request, there's a good chance I can get something made up special for you. Just about all the merchandise sells for $10 right now, plus shipping. The stuff is actually really cool, I like it a lot more than I thought I would, and it goes a long way toward supporting PL and getting me to that full time goal. Right now updates are painfully slow, I know, but I'm going to do this for a living, which means I'm going to stick with it. Thanks for sticking around with me!
Thanks for the review, Barry! |
